Balancing Democracy and Technology: A Discussion on the Future of Governance in Our Digital Age

As democratic values face significant challenges on a global scale, it is imperative to reimagine how democracy can function in today’s society. One of the key issues is how to balance traditional democratic processes with the increasing interconnectedness of social technologies in our daily lives. To address this challenge, it is important to establish a common set of principles that are embraced by all citizens and re-legitimize governance practices.

When considering the future of democracy and technology, there are many questions to be addressed. For example, should democracy remain rooted in a low-tech environment or should it adapt to the ever-evolving technological landscape? How can we ensure that democratic institutions remain effective in an era dominated by artificial intelligence and social media? And most importantly, is it possible to achieve widespread online participation and deliberation to enhance democracy?

To explore these issues and more, join Lawrence Lessig, the Roy L. Furman Professor of Law and Leadership at Harvard Law School, and Claudia Chwalisz, the Founder and CEO of DemocracyNext, for a discussion on the future of democracy and technology in our digital age. The conversation will be moderated by RSM Employee Fellow Manon Revel, providing insight into how democracy can thrive in a technologically driven world.
