Armenia Seeks to Confiscate Billions in Illegally Acquired Property through Prosecutor’s Applications
Prosecutor Anna Vardapetyan has presented three applications to parliament requesting the confiscation of illegal properties worth 86 billion 480 million drams, equivalent to one billion dollars. The applications include demands for the return of real estate and other assets from several individuals, including ex-President Robert Kocharyan and former Chairman of SRC Gagik Khachatryan.
In one application, the prosecutor is seeking the confiscation of 25 units of real estate and over 35 billion drams from Kocharyan and seven others related to him. In another application, Vardapetyan is asking for the return of around 200 units of real estate belonging to Khachatryan and his associates, including 56 properties located in Yerevan’s center.
The leader of the “Prosperous Armenia” party, ex-MP Gagik Tsarukyan and his related persons are also being asked to forfeit various assets in favor of Armenia. These include 79 real estates, 42 vehicles, and the acquisition value of eight unidentified vehicles worth 349 million drams. Additionally, Tsarukyan is required to surrender shares in 39 legal entities worth over 10 billion drams and demand loans equivalent to more than 63.3 billion drams from individuals and legal entities totaling over
