Fortnite and Epic Games Store set to launch on iPadOS in 2021

Apple to Make Changes to iPadOS as EU’s Digital Markets Law Takes Effect, Fortnite Returns

The European Union’s Digital Markets Law has designated iPadOS as a market access guardian, requiring it to open up to external sources. As a result, Epic Games has announced that Fortnite will be returning to tablets with iPadOS along with its own digital store.

Apple will need to make changes to iPadOS in order to comply with the Digital Markets Law, which includes allowing users more control over their applications and enabling support for downloading applications from sources other than the App Store. This move follows Epic Games’ successful return to iOS devices and their determination to make Fortnite available on iPads within the European Union as soon as possible.

Epic Games took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce their plans, stating that they are working on bringing Fortnite and their store to iPhones in the EU soon, followed by a release on iPads later this year within the European Union. This decision comes after the European Commission announced that iPads would also need to comply with the Digital Markets Act.
