WhatsApp, Instagram and Meta Platforms Suffer Global Outages Affecting Millions of Users

On Wednesday, Meta Platforms-owned messaging service WhatsApp reported issues that affected tens of thousands of users worldwide. According to tracking website Downdetector.com, the problem was resolved over three hours later when WhatsApp announced they were back up and running.

During the outage, over 24,000 users in the United States were impacted, with nearly 46,000 users in India also reporting problems. In addition to WhatsApp issues, over 82,000 users in the United Kingdom and more than 88,000 users in Brazil experienced Instagram outages during the same time period.

This is not the first time that Meta Platforms-owned apps have experienced outages. Last month, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads suffered disruptions, affecting hundreds of thousands of users. Meta Platforms reported that during the fourth quarter of 2023, almost 4 billion people were using at least one of their core products each month, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram
