West Branch dominates in EBC opener as Alazaus, Shields and Robb shine

On Wednesday, West Branch third baseman Beau Alazaus had a standout performance at Carl Michael Field, driving in four runs to lead his team to a 10-0 victory over Minerva. Alazaus had two hits in the game, including a two-run single in the fourth inning and a two-run double in the sixth.

Senior Jaxon Robb also made a significant contribution to the team’s success, going 2-for-2 with two runs after receiving medical clearance earlier in the day. Hunter Shields also had two hits and scored three runs.

Anthony Perry earned the win on the mound for West Branch, pitching a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks. Perry also helped his cause by hitting a two-run single in the sixth inning. West Branch is now 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference, while Minerva falls to 0-4 and 0-2 in the EBC.

West Branch scored single runs in each of the first three innings, with Shields scoring on a wild pitch in the first and Charlie Biskup walking and eventually scoring on a fielder’s choice in the second. Boston Mulinix also stole two bases during the game. Brayden Wood from Minerva went 2-for-3 at bat but took the loss on the mound, giving up five runs (three earned) on four hits in three and a half innings.
