Warriors strengthen their coaching staff with veteran hires and a returning assistant

The Golden State Warriors have added two new members to their coaching staff, with veteran coach Terry Stotts and former NBA All-Star player Jerry Stackhouse joining the team. Stotts, 66, has 13 years of head coaching experience and most recently coached the Portland Trail Blazers. He will take on the top assistant role vacated by Kenny Atkinson. Stackhouse, 49, is a two-time All-Star who turned to coaching after retiring in 2013. He will fill the spot left open by the passing of assistant Dejan Milojević in February.

Kris Weems will remain on the front bench and fill the third assistant spot. This move brings back Bruce Fraser, known for his close relationship with Stephen Curry, to the second bench after three seasons on the front bench. Both Stotts and Stackhouse are expected to join Steve Kerr on the front bench next season, creating a stronger coaching staff for the Warriors. Weems was promoted to the front bench last summer after Jama Mahlalela left for a job with the Toronto Raptors.

Stotts had a discord with head coach Adrian Griffin while working as an assistant for the Milwaukee Bucks last season, which led to his resignation before the season began. Stackhouse spent three seasons coaching with the Raptors and two as head coach of their G League team. He also worked as an assistant with the Memphis Grizzlies before becoming head coach at Vanderbilt for five seasons. Although both Stotts and Stackhouse come with previous head coaching experience,
