Vietnam Seeking Strategic Partnership with South Korea to Boost its Semiconductor and AI Sectors

During a recent meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, 15 Korean experts and scientists offered valuable advice to help Vietnam grow its semiconductor and artificial intelligence sectors. Dr. Chang Joon-Yeon of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) emphasized the need for government and investor commitment to the semiconductor industry, while Professor Lim Jung-Wook of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) stressed the importance of investing in training elite human resources for this field.

Professor Jeong Moon-seok of Hanyang University warned about the risks of other countries attracting semiconductor human resources with attractive policies. Meanwhile, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat highlighted the importance of cooperation with KIST and Korea in AI and semiconductor technology, focusing on AI technologies in various sectors. The minister mentioned ongoing cooperation plans and a focus on research and development in areas such as brain-simulating chips, artificial neural networks, and quantum computing.

Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Planning and Investment, discussed the government’s strategies for attracting investments in semiconductors and AI. He mentioned plans to train 50,000 semiconductor human resources by 2030 and the government’s policy mechanisms to facilitate this training. Viettel’s Chairman Tao Duc Thang expressed his readiness to cooperate with Korean enterprises in semiconductors and AI.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the Korean experts for their advice and emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to developing high-value industries such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence. He discussed the government’s policies and projects in these sectors, highlighting the importance of inter-governmental cooperation with South Korea on semiconductor and AI development.

In conclusion, Vietnam has a strong advantage in human resources but needs to invest more in training elite human resources for its semiconductor industry. The government should also develop new technologies through research and development while securing talent individuals who can become experts in this field. Additionally, intergovernmental cooperation with South Korea is crucial to developing successful AI and semiconductor technology projects.
