Health and Wellness Center Set to Open in Late 2024 | Update

Urbana Park District’s New Health and Wellness Center on Track for Grand Opening in January 2025

Urbana Park District’s new health and wellness center at Prairie Park is set to open in January 2025, according to Executive Director Tim Bartlett. The facility could have a soft opening in October or November, allowing the district to advertise and develop a full program schedule before the grand opening. Bartlett expressed excitement for the opportunity to train staff and address any issues that may arise during the transition from the Brookens Administrative Center to the new health and wellness center.

The $16.1 million building project has been on track, with construction expected to be completed by late August. Outdoor landscaping is scheduled to begin in mid-August, although potential delays could occur due to extreme weather conditions. The district plans to finalize a punch list before relocating staff to the health and wellness center from their current location. Additionally, the district is considering Phase 2 outdoor amenities such as trail connections, an outdoor playground, a sprayground, and a skatepark. While funding for these amenities is uncertain, the Urbana Parks Foundation aims to secure funds for these projects.

Bartlett emphasized the importance of these outdoor amenities on the Urbana community and expressed hope for their successful completion following the completion of the health and wellness center. The district is focused on enhancing recreational opportunities for residents and developing a comprehensive wellness facility that will benefit the community as a whole. With continued progress and support, the new health and wellness center at Prairie Park is poised to become an essential asset for Urbana residents.
