Unprecedented Wave of University Protests Sweeps Across the US in Response to Gaza Attacks

A wave of student demonstrations has been spreading across the United States since last week. Students from institutions such as Columbia University in New York and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) are calling on universities to cut all ties with the Israeli government in response to the attacks in the Gaza Strip. Numerous students from public and private universities have been arrested for participating in these protests.

On Tuesday night, New York police entered Hamilton Hall, a Columbia building with symbolic value for protests, which had been occupied by students. More than 200 protesters were arrested at Columbia and City College of New York. The occupation of Hamilton Hall has become a symbol of university protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Columbia University has become the epicenter of university protests in the US against the war in Gaza. Mayor Eric Adams stated that the occupation was led by individuals not enrolled at Columbia, implying involvement from external agitators. Politicians from both parties have condemned these protests, with President Biden labeling some of the students’ tactics as violent and anti-Semitic.

At least 34 students were detained during clashes with police at the University of Wisconsin, while UCLA saw similar clashes between pro-Israel and pro-Palestine protesters. The University of Texas also witnessed an arrest during an occupation protest involving students calling for a boycott on Israeli goods.

Former President Trump praised New York police’s actions against protesters at Columbia University, while Governor Abbott emphasized that camps will not be allowed on educational campuses. These escalating demonstrations highlight deep divisions within American universities surrounding Israel-Palestine relations.

In conclusion, student demonstrations are becoming more common across America since last week due to their call for universities to cut all ties with Israel following attacks in Gaza Strip.

These events have led to numerous arrests and violent confrontations between protesters and police officers across different universities such as Columbia, UCLA, Wisconsin, Texas among others.

While some politicians condemn these protests as anti-Semitic or violent, others see them as necessary actions to bring attention to ongoing conflicts between Israelis and Palestinians.

The situation continues to escalate despite calls from former President Trump praising law enforcement’s efforts while Governor Abbott emphasizes that camps will not be allowed on educational institutions.
