Unprecedented Tornadoes Wreak Havoc in Central Ohio: Senators Advocate for Disaster Relief

On March 14, 2024, tornadoes struck Central Ohio causing widespread destruction and loss of life. In Logan County, the economic damage has been particularly severe, prompting Governor DeWine to request a disaster declaration from the Small Business Administration (SBA). This declaration would provide support for businesses and homes that were damaged by the tornadoes.

U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and J.D. Vance (R-OH) have also joined forces in advocating for a disaster declaration for Logan County. They believe that low-interest loans should be made available to businesses that need assistance in repairing the damage caused by the tornadoes. The senators have also urged the Biden Administration to issue a FEMA disaster declaration for several other counties in Ohio that were affected by tornadoes, including Auglaize, Crawford, Darke, Delaware, Hancock, Licking, Mercer, Miami, Richland and Union.

The senators hope that securing disaster declarations for these areas will ensure that communities receive the support they need to recover and rebuild in the aftermath of natural disasters. The destruction of homes and apartments as well as businesses has left many families and individuals without shelter or means of income. The senators believe that it is imperative to provide support for those affected by this tragedy so they can begin to rebuild their lives.

Governor DeWine has expressed his gratitude towards Senators Brown and Vance for their efforts in advocating for disaster relief for Logan County and other affected areas in Ohio. He believes that with their help, communities will be able to recover from this devastating event.

The tornadoes have had a significant impact on families and businesses across 11 counties in central Ohio with losses sustained being particularly severe in Logan County which justifies SBA disaster assistance.
