Many companies are failing to invest in adequate technology, and employees are leaving as a result.

UK IT Decision-Makers Must Prioritize Investments in Emerging Technologies to Stay Competitive

The latest research by Microsoft has shown that UK IT decision-makers must prioritize investments in emerging technologies and digital skills to remain competitive. A survey of over 1,000 employees and 600 IT decision-makers found that two out of five IT decision-makers believe their organization is falling behind due to insufficient investment in new technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Workers are feeling the brunt of this lack of investment, with many expressing dissatisfaction with their companies’ stance on AI. In fact, a quarter of respondents said their PCs are not powerful enough to run AI effectively, limiting the benefits they can get from the technology. This sentiment is particularly strong among Gen Z employees, with 35% saying their computers are not powerful enough for AI.

However, there is hope for those looking to improve their AI capabilities. The study found that 89% of IT decision-makers believe they would be able to use AI more effectively if they had access to the right supportive tools. Additionally, three out of five workers who are considering changing jobs say they would stay longer if their current employer helped them develop more digital skills.

Microsoft UK Head of Surface Commercial, Alan Slothower, emphasized the importance of prioritizing AI-ready PCs and effective training for IT decision-makers. He stated that the rapid adoption of AI in the workplace necessitates higher specification technology and digital upskilling to ensure competitiveness.

In summary, UK IT decision-makers must invest in emerging technologies and digital skills if they want to remain competitive in today’s rapidly changing business environment. By prioritizing these investments, organizations can take advantage of new technologies like artificial intelligence and improve productivity while keeping employees happy and engaged.
