U.S. Senator Tours Indiana University’s High-Speed Fiber Optic Network and Encounters Groundbreaking AI Research

Last week, U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) visited the Indiana University (IU) Technology Park and met with IU students and faculty. During the visit, Senator Young toured the Cyberinfrastructure Building (CIB) and learned about IU’s I-Light program, a high-speed fiber optic network connecting research and education communities across the state.

Young also toured IU’s Data Center and saw Big Red 200, a supercomputer supporting advanced research in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data analytics. The visit was led by Indiana University Associate Vice President for Research Technologies Matthew Link, who showed physical hardware components that make up artificial intelligence compute to the senator during the tour of the IU Data Center at IU Bloomington on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.

The visit concluded with project updates from students and faculty in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering. “I appreciated the opportunity to see firsthand the incredible AI innovation and research taking place at Indiana University,” said Senator Young. “I continue to be encouraged by the contributions students and faculty at IU are adding to our state’s leadership in AI and other emerging technologies.”
