Sewell announces federal funding to bolster maternal health services

U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell Announces $8.8 Million Federal Funding for Maternity Care in Underserved Areas

Today, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, AL-07, is hosting two press conferences to announce federal funding she helped secure for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing and the Bessemer Police Department.

The first conference will take place at 10 a.m. CST where Rep. Sewell will be joined by the Dean of the UAB School of Nursing and the Director of the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) of Central Alabama to present a check for $8.8 million over a five-year period from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Integrated Maternal Health Services Program. With this funding, the UAB School of Nursing will partner with the NFP of Central Alabama to increase access to maternity care in underserved areas.
