Treasury Secretary Yellen Visits Detroit to Emphasize Small Business Support

Treasury Secretary Yellen’s Small Business Booster Tour: Unpacking the Biden Administration’s Agenda in Detroit.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen of the Biden administration is set to visit Detroit to emphasize the administration’s support for small businesses in Michigan and across the US. This trip comes at a critical moment for President Biden, as he received both support and opposition during a recent campaign stop in Warren, Michigan. During a United Auto Workers hall event a week after the union endorsed him for the 2024 election, the president spoke to supporters and opponents alike. Meanwhile, protesters outside called for restricted military aid to Israel and a ceasefire in Gaza.

In Detroit, Yellen will attend several events where she will promote three legislations – the Inflation Reduction Act, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the CHIPS and Science Act. She will be accompanied by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer at the Detroit Economic Club and visit Michigan Central to take a tour and join a roundtable with U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow and local entrepreneurs. The visit will showcase the administration’s efforts in small business growth and celebrate what they term as a “small business boom” in the US economy, with 16 million new business applications being filed in the first three years of the administration. Yellen has made similar visits to Illinois and Wisconsin, and her last visit to Michigan was in September 2022 when she delivered remarks at Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center.
