The Olde Open Window: A Brainerd Success Story of Adapting and Community Building

The Olde Open Window, a downtown Brainerd gift shop specializing in antiques and home décor, has been in operation for 14 years. This week, we visited the store to explore how it has grown and changed over the years.

Only six months after opening, the store’s owner, Lynda Boyd, seized an opportunity to expand the business by emphasizing the importance of adapting to market demands and envisioning potential growth. Over the years, The Olde Open Window has transformed significantly, especially with the closure of big box stores in the area providing opportunities for growth.

Boyd credits much of the store’s success to word-of-mouth marketing. With a strong social media following and a loyal customer base built over 14 years, The Olde Open Window continues to listen to feedback and add products based on customer preferences. The sense of community among small businesses in Brainerd Lakes Area is evident as businesses support each other and refer customers to one another.

The Olde Open Window features 20 local businesses and vendors, making it a beacon of success and guidance for other small businesses in the area. Boyd shared that many aspiring business owners seek advice and inspiration from their experience and growth. The store’s longevity and commitment to excellent customer service have established it as a cornerstone of Brainerd Lakes Area’s local business community.
