TGL Postponed: Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s Tournament Delayed by Dome Collapse
The made-for-television league Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy were set to debut in early 2024 at the SoFi Center, a custom-built arena on the campus of Palm Beach State College. However, a partial power failure last Tuesday caused the dome to deflate, leading to a delay in the start of the league until early 2025.
The six-team league will feature weekly matches in an arena with a simulator about 20 times larger than a standard simulator and a “green zone” that will allow a variety of shots to an adjustable putting surface. Tiger Woods, one of the co-founders of the league, expressed his excitement about its potential and his confidence that it will be brought to life by committed players.
Rory McIlroy, another co-founder, acknowledged the disappointment of the delay but saw it as an opportunity for regrouping and refocusing before returning stronger. The decision to postpone the league was made after reviewing short-term solutions, potential construction timelines, player schedules and primetime sports television calendar.
