Wyatt Langford, Rookie for the Rangers, Hits for the Cycle to Start the 2024 MLB Season

Texas Rangers Rookie Wyatt Langford Hits for the Cycle in First Four-Hit Game of Major League Career

Wyatt Langford, the Texas Rangers’ rookie sensation, had a standout performance on “Sunday Night Baseball,” hitting for the cycle in an 11-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. The 22-year-old got off to a strong start by hitting a triple in the fourth inning, followed by a double in the fifth and a single in the sixth. He completed the cycle with a home run in the eighth inning off Orioles’ pitcher Matt Krook.

This remarkable performance marked Langford’s first four-hit game in his major league career. This season, he has hit four home runs, nine doubles, and four triples, maintaining a .260 batting average and .712 OPS in 245 plate appearances. Langford played in 58 games for the Rangers, missing a few weeks in May due to a hamstring injury.

Langford’s cycle was the first hit in MLB since José Altuve achieved the feat against Boston Red Sox in August 2023. He joins Oddibe McDowell as one of only two rookies to ever hit for the cycle for Texas Rangers franchise history. Carlos Gomez is also among those who have done it before him.

The first Ranger to hit for the cycle was Jim King back when they were known as Washington Senators back in 1964. This incredible achievement puts Langford among some of baseball’s greatest moments and solidifies his place as one of this season’s breakout players.
