Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has announced that the company will be laying off more than 10 percent of its employees worldwide. This news comes after a lawsuit filed by former Twitter employees who sued Musk for over $128 million in compensation due to severance pay discrepancies. The lawsuit was filed in March after Musk acquired the company and renamed it X.
The company had more than 140,000 employees at the end of last year, and some affected employees reportedly found out they were fired when their access card no longer worked. It is unclear how many employees were affected by the low severance packages, but this rare show of remorse from Musk comes after he acknowledged his mistake in some severance packages being too low and apologized for the error.
As Tesla continues to navigate through restructuring and layoffs, it remains to be seen how the company will handle the aftermath of these changes and address the concerns raised by affected employees.
