Tesla Cybertruck Recall Due to Assembly Error: 4,000 Vehicles Affected

Tesla is recalling nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks due to an issue where the accelerator can get stuck in the down position. The cause of this problem, according to the regulator, is the use of soap during the assembly process. This soap lubricant was not approved and has led to reduced retention of the pad to the pedal.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has ordered this recall and stated that it affects all Model Year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured from November 13, 2023, to April 4, 2024. It’s worth noting that Tesla has not disclosed the total number of Cybertrucks it has produced but has mentioned that production of the vehicle is being slowly increased. The first deliveries of the Cybertruck were made in late November.

This recall impacts 3,878 trucks that are likely currently on US roads. The issue was brought to light through social media and online discussions where reports of the accelerator sticking problem were shared. In response to this issue, NHTSA stated that workers at Tesla’s factory near Austin, Texas used soap improperly during the assembly of the pad onto the accelerator pedal.

Unlike previous Tesla recalls that could be fixed through software updates, this recall requires owners to bring their Cybertrucks to Tesla service centers for a repair at no cost. As yet, Tesla has not responded to requests for comment on this issue.
