Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Breaks World Record in 400-meter Hurdles at U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials

At the conclusion of the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, a world record was broken by Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone in the 400-meter hurdles. She led from start to finish, with no one challenging her en route to her second straight title. Her time of 50.65 seconds lowered her own world record from 2021 by just 0.03 seconds. In an interview following the race on NBC, McLaughlin-Levrone expressed her surprise and amazement at breaking the world record.

Anna Cockrell finished in second place with a time of 52.64 seconds, while Jasmine Jones earned the final Olympic spot with a time of 52.77 seconds. Dalilah Muhammad, who won the 400-meter hurdles gold medal at the 2016 Olympics and finished second at the 2021 Olympics, came in sixth place with a time of 54.27 seconds. The three women who qualified for the Olympic team paid tribute to Muhammad in their post-race interview.

McLaughlin-Levrone, at just 24 years old, has been in top form this season across a range of events including a relay race and several individual races like the open 400 meters where she set the fastest time so far this year which indicates her versatility as an athlete. She is expected to participate in at least one, possibly two relays for Team USA in Paris this upcoming Olympics games that will be highly anticipated event due to her rivalry with Femke Bol from Netherlands who finished behind her in world championships last year but also competed against him in previous years competitions where they have had very close results .
