Closure of Airport Hwy. impacts Swanton businesses

Swanton’s Sewer Separation Project Impacts Local Business Owners on Toledo’s Main Street

Toledo, Ohio’s S. Main Street at the major intersection on Airport Highway is currently closed for the last phase of Swanton’s sewer separation project. Local business owners are concerned about the limited traffic flow that may negatively impact their storefronts, especially during this closure period.

CK Sweets owner Cat Kania shared her concerns, stating that if customers cannot access their location from Main Street, they may have difficulty finding their store. Similarly, Kamran Durrani of Stop by Mart relies heavily on passing traffic for his convenience store. He worries about the impact of the road closure on his revenue, particularly during the summer months when many people stop by for cold drinks and snacks.

Despite these challenges, the Swanton Chamber of Commerce is encouraging people to support local businesses during this time through social media posts. Detour routes have been provided for both westbound and eastbound traffic as well as for SR 64 northbound traffic. Business owners are hopeful that the community will come together and show support during this temporary closure.

The intersection is expected to remain closed for 30 days until the project is completed. The Swanton Chamber of Commerce has expressed its commitment to supporting local businesses during this time and encourages customers to continue shopping locally while construction takes place.
