Vietnam and Japan enjoy their strongest-ever relationship

Stronger Than Ever: Vietnam and Japan’s Economy-Boosting Comprehensive Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia

Ambassador Ito Naoki commended the strong relationship between Vietnam and Japan, highlighting the potential for further economic cooperation and labor training opportunities. He stated that the upgrading of the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World in 2023 demonstrates the political trust between the two countries’ senior leaders and governments.

During a press conference in Hanoi on June 28, Ambassador Ito emphasized the significant progress made in bilateral relations over the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, particularly in the last decade since elevating the relationship to an Extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia. He praised Vietnam’s advancements both economically and in its regional influence within ASEAN and Asia.

Ambassador Ito expressed Japan’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s development goals, especially as Vietnam aims to become a developed country by 2045. He highlighted Japan’s role in providing ODA to Vietnam over the past 30 years and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation into new areas such as energy development, green transformation, and digital transformation.

In addition to economic cooperation, Ambassador Ito discussed the importance of Vietnamese labor resources in Japan, noting their contributions to various sectors. Japan is actively seeking to enhance mechanisms for receiving Vietnamese workers while creating a safe working environment for them. The Ambassador emphasized that Vietnamese workers gaining skills and experience in Japan would benefit their return home to contribute to their country’s development.

Ambassador Ito underscored his commitment to promoting and deepening cooperative relations between Vietnam and Japan during his term while expressing gratitude for Vietnamese leaders, government agencies, businesses, people’s expectations. The Ambassador emphasized his dedication to meeting these expectations while strengthening bonds between two countries
