Seahawks reach agreement with Laviska Shenault on contract terms

Seahawks Sign Laviska Shenault for Kick Return and Versatile Skills on Special Teams

The Seahawks have added another player to their roster, Laviska Shenault, who has experience as a kick returner and could provide valuable versatility to the team. Shenault, a former second-round pick for the Jaguars in 2020, was traded to the Panthers at the beginning of the 2022 season and has averaged 27.7 yards per return on nine attempts over the last two seasons. Last season alone, he had six returns in eight games.

Seattle’s decision to sign Shenault could be motivated by the new kick return rule being passed. With this rule in place, Shenault’s value may increase as a kick returner for the Seahawks. Although he has shown promise as a receiver, catching 121 passes for 1,219 yards with five touchdowns in his first two seasons, his production decreased during his time with the Panthers. In the last two years, he only had 37 catches for 332 yards with one touchdown.

The Seahawks are looking to strengthen their special teams and add versatility to their roster with Shenault’s signing. His experience as a kick returner and potential as a receiver could make him a valuable asset for the team moving forward.
