Science Building Comes to Life at Butte College: Construction Milestone Reached with Final Beam Placement

Butte College celebrated a major milestone in its construction process as the final beam of its new 72,276-square-foot science building was placed in Butte Valley. A news release from the college stated that the campus community gathered at the construction site at 11 a.m. on Wednesday to sign the final beam and mark this important moment.

Construction of the building began in April 2023 and is expected to open in fall 2025. The new building will include a planetarium, sustainable facilities, upgraded classrooms, and collaborative study spaces. It will offer classes in various disciplines including science, technology, engineering, mathematics, construction management, nursing, allied health, and general education in the sciences.

The project is funded by Measure J, a $190 million bond measure that was approved by voters in November 2016, as well as the state’s Physical Plant and Instructional Support Block Grant. This state-of-the-art facility will provide students with cutting-edge resources and technology to further their education and research in a wide range of fields.

The addition of the new science building is an exciting development for Butte College and will significantly enhance the educational experience for students in the STEM and healthcare fields. The building will not only provide state-of-the-art facilities for students to learn and conduct research but will also serve as a hub for collaboration and innovation. With its modern amenities and advanced technology, the new science building is poised to become a cornerstone of academic excellence at Butte College for years to come.
