Scarlett Johansson in discussions for lead role in upcoming ‘Jurassic World’ film

Scarlett Johansson Joins Universal’s Jurassic World: Reviving the franchise with a New Entry in 2025.

Scarlett Johansson is set to star in Universal’s new Jurassic World movie, which will be released on July 2, 2025. The film will be directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp. Edwards took over the directing responsibilities after David Leitch left the project shortly after joining.

Johansson has previously starred as Black Widow in various Marvel Studios films, including the Avengers series. Despite her success in the superhero genre, she has also managed to establish herself in other projects, earning two Oscar nominations for her roles in Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit. She is also set to voice a character in the upcoming animated feature Transformers One and will appear in a big-budget Apple feature alongside Channing Tatum, both scheduled for release this year.

The Jurassic World franchise has been ongoing for 30 years, starting with Steven Spielberg’s 1993 hit film Jurassic Park, based on Michael Crichton’s novel. This was followed by a sequel, The Lost World, directed by Spielberg in 1997 and Jurassic Park III helmed by Joe Johnston. Universal revived the franchise with Jurassic World in 2015, which was a major box office success grossing $1.67 billion. This was followed by sequels Fallen Kingdom in 2018 and Dominion in 2022. The most recent trilogy of films was led by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard under the direction of filmmaker Colin Trevorrow.
