Extended intersection closure causes frustration for Saginaw businesses

Saginaw’s Hand Dipped Ice Cream Faces Challenges Amidst Major Intersection Closures During Peak Season

A mid-Michigan ice cream shop in Saginaw is facing frustration due to two major intersection closures that will last for months during its peak season. The first closure started on Monday, March 25, when construction closed the intersection of Sheridan Avenue and Hess Avenue, which was an unexpected surprise for both commuters and businesses located at the intersection.

Fred Temple, an employee at the family-owned Hand Dipped Ice Cream, arrived at work to find hard hats and orange barrels due to the reconstruction project that started on the street. The closure isn’t expected to be lifted until August 9, causing concerns for Temple and other businesses in the area.

The closure has impacted the flow of traffic, with the city urging residents to find alternate routes to their destinations. Temple believes the closure will deter customers from visiting the shop, especially during the upcoming Fourth of July celebrations. However, despite these challenges, Temple is still encouraging people to visit Hand Dipped Ice Cream for their delicious treats. Along with ice cream, the shop also offers tacos and tostadas for customers to enjoy.

In addition to the intersection closure on Sheridan Avenue and Hess Avenue, Gratiot Avenue (M-46) is also closed between Malzahn Street and Wheeler Street for utility work until Friday afternoon, March 29. The combination of these closures is creating disruptions for businesses and residents in Saginaw as they struggle to adapt to new traffic patterns and find alternate routes around town.

Despite these challenges, businesses like Hand Dipped Ice Cream are finding ways to adapt and survive in this changing environment. Temple has been working hard to keep up with customer demand by expanding his menu offerings beyond just ice cream. In addition to traditional ice cream flavors like chocolate chip cookie dough and mint chocolate chip chip cookie dough sundae bowls
