In 2023, Visit Sacramento generated a record 332,000 hotel room nights, the most in their 97-year history. The city’s attractions, such as the state capitol and gold rush history, have always drawn visitors, but the addition of new events like conventions, music, and food festivals are bringing more people to Sacramento. According to Visit Sacramento CEO Mike Testa, tourism brings over $4 billion in impact to the region.
Placer County is also expanding its tourism offerings by focusing on hosting sports tournaments. The CEO of Placer Valley Tourism, Kim Summers mentioned that large tournaments draw thousands of out-of-state competitors and contribute significantly to the local economy. However, Placer County lacks facilities to host more events and a shortage of hotel rooms is a concern for Sacramento.
Some of the city’s popular festivals like Aftershock rock festival and GoldenSky country music festival are expanding due to growing demand. Both Sacramento and Placer acknowledge the need for more tourism infrastructure to accommodate larger events. The modernization of convention centers is one such project that will benefit both regions in terms of boosting their tourism revenue.
Efforts by both cities to enhance their tourism infrastructure will further boost California’s thriving tourism industry. With a diverse range of events that attract visitors and contribute significantly to the local economy, California is set for continued growth in the years ahead.
