BBC Reports Russia Utilizing ‘Meat Assault’ Strategy to Identify Ukraine’s Military Strength

Russia’s ‘Meat Assault’ Tactics Leave Ukrainian Soldiers Struggling to Keep Up with Intensifying Invasion Efforts

The constant barrage of attacks from Russian troops has taken a toll on Ukrainian soldiers, both physically and psychologically. The relentless waves of enemy forces that have to be faced and destroyed daily are a significant challenge for Ukrainian troops. Despite the intensity of these tactics, Russia has only seen incremental successes in its invasion of Ukraine.

Russian casualties have been substantial, with reports of “meat assault” tactics being implemented in attacks on Ukrainian cities. The ruthless approach taken by Russian commanders, which includes leaving their dead and wounded on the battlefield, has drawn criticism even from within Russia. UK military intelligence reported a spike in Russian injuries and deaths in May, with Russia losing around 1,200 troops daily.

Despite the significant losses suffered by Russia, the country has managed to replenish its troop numbers through various means such as offering lucrative military contracts, drafting prisoners, and utilizing foreign mercenaries. The increase in casualties came as Russia intensified its attacks on Kharkiv, taking advantage of delays in Western aid reaching Ukraine’s front lines.

According to a Ukrainian officer speaking to BBC News, Russia is using aggressive attacks by waves of troops to pinpoint Ukrainian firepower positions. The tactics employed by Russia near Kharkiv in Ukraine have been described as brutal, with troops referring to the waves of Russian attacks as “meat assaults.” Lieutenant Colonel Anton Bayev of the Khartia Brigade of Ukraine’s National Guard explained that the Russians use these units to identify where Ukrainian firing equipment is located and to wear down Ukrainian units.
