The University of Rochester Medical Center recently announced the launch of a new pediatric behavioral health urgent care center called the Brighter Days Pediatric Mental Health Urgent Care Center. This clinic, which is located at 300 Crittenden Blvd, is the first of its kind in the area and will cater to children up to the age of 18.
Dr. Michael Scharf, the psychiatrist-in-chief at GCH, stated that this initiative was a significant step in providing essential mental health services to children in Western New York. The clinic aims to offer immediate and safe mental health care to children, thereby preventing unnecessary visits to the emergency room or long waits for outpatient services. The focus of the clinic will be on a family-centered approach.
The Brighter Days Pediatric Mental Health Urgent Care Center will be open daily from noon to 7 p.m., welcoming walk-ins. The center will have 15 patient rooms staffed by 30 caregivers, including mental health counselors, social workers, nurses, psychologists, case managers, and support staff. This multidisciplinary team will work together to provide comprehensive care to children in need.
