Richard Tugman has been named as the interim president and CEO of Centra Health in Lynchburg. Tugman previously served as Centra’s interim CEO in 2021, and has been the CEO of Piedmont Community Health Plan since 2016. Thomas Nygaard, M.D., Chair of Centra’s Board of Directors, stated that Tugman’s deep understanding of the organization and its people makes him well-suited to lead Centra during this transition period.
The announcement was made on Thursday, with Nygaard expressing gratitude to Amy Carrier for her contributions to Centra and wishing her success in her future endeavors. The board looks forward to working with Tugman as they search for a new, permanent CEO to lead the organization in the future.
Centra Health is a subsidiary of Centra, and Tugman’s prior experience with the organization gives the board confidence that he will effectively lead Centra during this transition period. A transition committee has been appointed to advise him in his new role.
