Bridge breaks 10 world records by crossing the sea

Revolutionizing Transportation: The Groundbreaking Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge-Tunnel Project

Last weekend, China unveiled the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge-Tunnel project, a groundbreaking cross-sea bridge-tunnel system in Guangdong province that set 10 world records. The project aims to shorten travel time between the two cities from 2 hours to just 30 minutes. The Pearl River estuary, which includes nine cities in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, is densely populated but separated by water, making travel challenging.

The innovative project includes eight lanes with a top speed of 100 km/h, drastically reducing travel time and easing transportation between the cities. The tunnel showcases a unique lighting system that uses color coding to indicate the status of the tunnel – green for normal conditions and red for emergency situations. The lights can also guide people to safety by switching from yellow to green along the length of the tunnel. After seven years of construction, the project officially opened to traffic at 3 p.m. on June 30 local time.

In addition to its impressive scale and efficiency, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan project features advanced safety measures such as a new fire suppression system and a team of 14 robots that patrol the tunnel, monitoring pipes and cables for smooth operation. The tunnel connects with the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge, making it easier for residents and travelers to navigate the densely populated areas in the region.

During its official opening ceremony held on June 30th at 2:30 pm local time in Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone in Shenzhen City, officials from various government agencies were present alongside representatives from major corporations involved in constructing and operating this massive infrastructure project.

“This is an important moment not only for our country but also for our region,” said Zhou Xiaochuan, Governor of Guangdong Province.

“We believe this will greatly benefit not only residents living here but also visitors coming to our area,” added Wang Jinping, Mayor of Shenzhen City.

The new Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge-Tunnel project is expected to bring economic benefits not only through increased tourism but also by facilitating trade and commerce between neighboring regions.

Overall, this revolutionary transportation project marks a significant milestone in China’s efforts towards modernizing its infrastructure while improving connectivity within its borders and beyond them.
