Adapa introduces reconfigurable mold technology as a replacement for one-off fabrication

Revolutionizing Manufacturing: Adapa A/S Unveils Highly Advanced, Curved Adaptive Mold with Record-Breaking Number of Actuators

Based in Aalborg, Denmark, Adapa A/S is a leading innovator in the field of adaptive mold technology. Its technology is designed to streamline manufacturing processes for low-repetition, curved panels, enabling companies to produce them quickly, cost-effectively, and sustainably. These adaptive molds are versatile and can work with a range of composite materials and processes including hand lamination and vacuum infusion of materials like fiberglass, carbon fiber, prepreg, composite preforms and plywood.

In addition to hand lamination applications, Adapa’s adaptive mold system is also suitable for thermoforming thermoplastics like structural foam cores commonly used in industries such as aerospace, wind energy, marine and construction. The reconfigurable table of the system can handle solid surfaces such as Corian, Krion and Hi-Macs which are often used as façade panels in construction projects. Adapa’s technology even extends to thermoforming glass and the glazing process of PC/PMMA which are popular in the automotive and architecture sectors.

Recently, Adapa launched an adaptive mold with the highest number of actuators ever assembled by the company. Measuring 8.2 meters in length and 5 meters in width, this mold can achieve a curvature radius as tight as 400 mm. It has been specifically developed to handle complex curves quickly with a focus on composite products. This mold technology aims to improve precision and efficiency in manufacturing processes.

Overall, Adapa A/S states that its reconfigurable mold system helps to reduce costs
