Remembering Four Extraordinary Women: Lois Barton, Shary Weis, Ella J. Carroll, and Stacy Lasser

On April 25, 2024, two remarkable women from different backgrounds passed away: Lois Irene (Bastian) Barton and Shary Lee (Meredith) Weis. Lois was a 96-year-old woman who lived in Johnstown and was the daughter of Michael and Anna (Kehl) Bastian. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, as well as her siblings Florence and Charles. Lois is survived by her children: Anna Marie (Paul) Doherty, Michael (Deborah), Sandra (Ronald) Stombaugh, and more.

On the same day, Ella J. “Judy” Carroll, aged 89, of Chest Springs passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer. Born in Glen Daniel, W.Va., she was the daughter of Dalton and Delila (Brooks) Claypool. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph L. Carroll and her sons David Martin “Duff” and Michael Lee.

Also on April 25th, Stacy Elise Lasser, aged 45, of Hollidaysburg bravely fought liver cancer until her passing away on that same day. She is survived by her loving parents Byron and Ronna (Schwartz) Lasser as well as uncles, aunts, and other relatives.

Lastly on April 25th Shary Lee Weis aged 60 passed away peacefully in St Petersburg Florida after a short battle with cancer born in Altoona to D Reid Meredith Mary Lee Pope Meredith she was a graduate of Altoona Area High School Shary is survived by her family loved ones
