The Red Sox received a positive injury update on Tyler O’Neill, as he appears to have avoided a trip to the injured list following a scary collision with Rafael Devers. Manager Alex Cora revealed that O’Neill cleared concussion protocol after receiving eight stitches above his left eye and will miss the next two games but is expected to return to the lineup for Thursday’s series finale.
Fortunately, Devers was not injured in the collision and is in the lineup for Tuesday’s game. Despite being shaken up from the incident, he stayed in Monday’s game and is ready to play.
O’Neill has been performing well for the Red Sox this season, with a .313 batting average and seven home runs through 17 games. He has been a bright spot in an otherwise inconsistent offense.
Cora also gave an update on starter Nick Pivetta, who is recovering from a flexor strain. Pivetta has been playing catch for the third consecutive day as he works his way back to full strength.
After dropping the first game of their series against Cleveland, the Red Sox are looking to bounce back and secure a win on Tuesday night.
