Catawba Science Center to Unveil Exciting New Space Exhibit on July 10th

Red Planet Journeys: A Tour of the Catawba Science Center’s Expanding Horizons Exhibit”.

On July 10, 2024, the Catawba Science Center is set to launch its new permanent exhibit called Expanding Horizons: The Solar System & Beyond. Located in the Hall of Astronomy just outside the Millholland Planetarium, this exhibit invites visitors to explore our solar system and learn about space travel. From past missions to future endeavors, guests will discover how new technology is shaping the way we explore the galaxy.

One immersive feature of the exhibit is a Mars pod that allows visitors to experience what life would be like on the Red Planet. For those curious about what it would be like to travel to Mars, the planetarium show Destination Mars sponsored by John and Eileen Leach offers a captivating experience. Narrated by former NASA astronaut Mae Jemison, Destination Mars: The New Frontier provides an up-close look at humanity’s journey to the fourth planet from the sun.

The creation of this exhibit was made possible by presenting sponsors such as the Candler Foundation, the Cannon Foundation, the George Foundation, the TSH Charitable Foundation, and with support from the North Carolina Science Museums Grant Program. The Catawba Science Center is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and on Sundays from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
