Science Gateway Celebrates 100,000th Visitor Milestone

Reaching 100,000 Visitors: A Journey Through CERN Science Gateway’s Engaging Displays and Dedicated Guides

Since its opening in October 2023, CERN Science Gateway has welcomed an average of 1000 visitors per day. On Tuesday, February 6th, the center celebrated its 100,000th visitor: Bavo Lens and Nicky Morren from Hasselt, Belgium.

“Visiting CERN is a must,” said Lens. “As an engineer, I was thrilled to see high-tech machines like the Synchrocyclotron and ATLAS. The guide did a fantastic job explaining the complex material in a way that was easy to understand. The reception building is stunning and the exhibitions are excellent at explaining how particle research works in a clear and engaging way.”

Lens added that he enjoyed the vegetarian options at the restaurant with his friend Nicky Morren before leaving.

Since its opening, CERN Science Gateway has been offering activities for all ages, including inviting young visitors aged five and above to play and learn about science and technology. The Visits service would like to thank all active guides who have volunteered their time to ensure that visitors have an inspiring experience. Without their dedication, this milestone would not have been possible.

For those interested in becoming a guide at CERN Science Gateway, the first step is usually the biggest – but don’t worry – you’ll have plenty of support along the way from a team of experts who will be there every step of the journey!
