President Biden honors missing uncle and late son in visit to war memorial during emotional speech

During a visit to a missing-in-action war memorial in Scranton, Pennsylvania, President Joe Biden shared the story of his uncle, Ambrose Finnegan, who served in the Pacific campaign during World War Two. Finnegan’s plane was shot down over New Guinea, where there were cannibals at the time. Despite efforts to recover his body, Finnegan was never found. Biden’s emotional account of his uncle’s disappearance was prompted by comments made by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump about military service members.

In addition to honoring his uncle’s memory, Biden also referenced his late son, Beau, who passed away from brain cancer that Biden connected to his military service in Iraq. As he emotionally discussed Beau’s sacrifice, Biden expressed his belief that Trump is not fit to be commander in chief.

The president’s visit to Pennsylvania was part of his campaign efforts as he seeks reelection. Spending time at his childhood home in Scranton brought back memories and allowed him to reflect on his family’s military history. The trip underscored the importance of honoring those who have served their country.

Biden’s speech at the war memorial was met with applause from attendees and fellow veterans. His emotional tribute paid homage to those who have given their lives in defense of our nation and called for continued support for military families.

The president’s visit to Pennsylvania marked a significant milestone in his campaign efforts as he continues to seek reelection and honor the sacrifices of those who have served their country.
