Phoenix: Host of the 2027 NBA All-Star Weekend, Top Sports Market in Western Region

Phoenix has been named the host of the 2027 NBA All-Star Weekend, a decision that Suns owner Mat Ishbia is thrilled about. The city was recognized as a leading sports market in the Western region, falling just below Los Angeles and Las Vegas, in a recent report by Sports Business Journal.

The report ranked Phoenix as a top 10 city for sports business, taking into account factors such as venue quantity, media partnerships, key vendors, safety, hospitality, and entertainment. Phoenix was praised for its accessibility with 14 professional sports venues located within an hour’s drive. Additionally, executives highlighted the area’s thriving casual golfing culture.

Phoenix has a proven track record of hosting major sporting events with 26 major sports venues including a Super Bowl stadium and a PGA Tour venue. In addition to the All-Star Weekend, Phoenix hosts other permanent events like the NASCAR United Rentals Work United 500 and the ATP Arizona Tennis Classic.

The city has invested heavily in new venues in recent years such as the Legacy Sports Complex in Mesa. Furthermore, Phoenix boasts comparatively low tax rate with a room tax of just 12.57%, lower than most of the top 50 markets. All in all, Phoenix is gearing up to showcase its sports business capabilities on a national stage during the 2027 NBA All-Star Weekend.
