Peruvian athletes SMK Hazzense and SMK Magia Jr., representing e-sports team SmokeSolid Gaming, have qualified for the Grand Finals of the US region in the Fortnite Championship Series. They are now one step away from the in-person world championship after a hard-fought competition where they narrowly avoided elimination.
During the first round, the Peruvians tied for 25th place in the Upper Bracket. However, due to a difference in points, they were pushed down to 26th place and moved to the Lower Bracket, putting their advancement in jeopardy. With only 15 participants set to move on to the Grand Finals, it was a tense situation for the duo.
In an impressive comeback, SMK Hazzense and SMK Magia Jr. managed to accumulate 90 points, securing the 14th spot and their spot in the Grand Finals. Now, they will compete against 50 duos for one of three coveted spots in the 2024 Fortnite Championship Series in-person world championship.
These 16-year-olds had previously made it to the TOP 5 in Major 2 in both regions, showcasing their talent and determination. Additionally, two other members of their team – SMK Gonzalo and SMK Myst – secured their place in Majors 3 by finishing fourth place in both regions’ Upper Brackets.
The success of Peruvian players highlights the growing esports scene in South America. The team’s dedication and skill have earned them recognition as some of the best players in the region, with a chance to compete on an even bigger stage at Majors 3.
With more than $1 million up for grabs at this year’s Fortnite Championship Series World Cup, there is no doubt that this is just the beginning for Peruvian esports players like SMK Hazzense and SMK Magia Jr., who are determined to make their mark on global gaming stages.
