Patrick Cantlay Forced to Withdraw from John Deere Classic, Missing Opportunity to Make Debut at Major Championship

Patrick Cantlay’s participation in the John Deere Classic has been thrown into doubt as he withdrew from the tournament due to an injury sustained during training. Although he did not provide specific details about his injury, it is unfortunate timing as he was set to make his debut at the John Deere Classic this week.

Despite missing out on the opportunity to play in the John Deere Classic, Cantlay has had a successful season with four top-10 finishes, including a T3 at the U.S. Open and a T5 at the Travelers Championship. He has only missed one cut in 15 starts this season and was ranked No. 8 in the Official World Golf Rankings going into this week’s event.

Cantlay’s absence from the field at next week’s Genesis Scottish Open means that he will have three full weeks off before playing another tournament, which may not be ideal preparation for a major championship like the British Open at Royal Troon on July 18th. However, Jordan Spieth is one of many notable names competing in the John Deere Classic this week and has a chance to earn a spot in the British Open if he finishes in the top two players on the leaderboard who are not already exempt from the tournament.
