Ran Carthon reveals: Calvin Ridley pursuit initially deemed a “pipe dream”

Overcoming Budget Constraints: How the Titans Secured Calvin Ridley’s Services

Just a few weeks ago, rumors were swirling that wide receiver Calvin Ridley would be signing with the Titans, sparking surprise among many. It was thought that the Jaguars and Patriots were the top contenders for his services. However, it turns out that the Titans had managed to secure him, despite initial doubts.

General Manager Ran Carthon revealed that the team’s plan to acquire Ridley had been more of a pipe dream due to budget constraints. But when a couple of Titans players left for other teams in the opening hours of free agency, Carthon, president of football operations Chad Brinker, and head coach Brian Callahan started discussing making a move for Ridley.

After sleeping on it, the team decided to go for it the next morning. The swiftness of the deal was highlighted by team owner Amy Adams Strunk calling Carthon to confirm if the deal had been finalized while he was on another call with Ridley congratulating him on the agreement.

Carthon attributed the success of getting Ridley to his teamwork within the Titans organization. He expressed hope that this move would lead to a successful season under Callahan’s leadership.
