The Chicago Cubs will face the reigning World Series champion Texas Rangers in a baseball game on Opening Day. The game is set for 6:35 p.m. CT on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Arlington, Texas.
The pitching probables for the game are Justin Steele (0-0) for the Cubs and Nathan Eovaldi (0-0) for the Rangers. Last season, the Cubs had an 83-79 record overall with a 38-43 record in road games. Their pitching staff had a collective ERA of 4.09 and averaged 8.6 strikeouts per nine innings in the 2023 season. On the other hand, the Texas Rangers had a strong home record with a 50-31 record and averaged 8.5 strikeouts per nine innings while giving up only 4.4 runs per game in the same season.
Unfortunately, both teams have injuries to key players that could impact their performance during this opening day matchup. Jacob deGrom is currently on the Rangers’ 60-Day IL due to elbow issues, while Carson Coleman is also on their IL with elbow problems. For now, there are no players listed on the injury report for the Cubs.
Following this opening day game, both teams will have their home openers later in April at Wrigley Field and Globe Life Park respectively against Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners respectively
