A fire broke out in a strip mall on Michigan Road in Carmel early Thursday morning, resulting in one person dead and another injured. The Carmel Fire Department responded to the blaze at 3:30 a.m., with Tim Griffin, Public Information Officer, expressing condolences to the families and businesses affected by the tragedy.
Unfortunately, a man was found dead inside the building, and another person was taken to Eskenazi Hospital with fire-related injuries. Additionally, a Carmel firefighter sustained minor injuries while battling the flames. Griffin assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire.
As a result of the fire, Michigan Road near 96th Street was closed in both directions for safety reasons. The community is mourning this unfortunate incident as they try to come to terms with their loss and begin healing from it.
