Novant Health to cut over 170 jobs in North and South Carolina

Novant Health Announces Layoffs of Nearly 170 Employees at North and South Carolina Facilities

In June 2024, Novant Health announced layoffs at several of its locations in North and South Carolina. The healthcare provider informed the public on June 25 that it would be laying off 90 employees at its facility located at 6237 Carolina Commons Drive in Indian Land, SC. The layoffs will take effect on August 25.

The WARN notice revealed that a total of 81 people would be laid off from Novant Health’s facility in Winston-Salem, NC. These layoffs are also expected to occur on August 25. Various positions such as analytics developers, data engineers, and software developers will be affected by the layoffs. According to the WARN notice, these employees are not represented by a union. Those impacted received a 60-day notice.

In response to the announcement, Novant Health released a statement explaining that they made changes to their IT model for their Digital Products and Services (DPS) team. They transferred some DPS services to an external partner in 2023 and have now shifted additional DPS functions to Deloitte Digital, which will reduce their use of other external partners by more than 90 percent. This change allows them to scale their resources so they can continue investing in creating a healthier future for the people and communities they serve. The statement noted that fewer than 300 team members were impacted by this change, which is less than one percent of nearly 40,000 positions across their health system. Interested team members may have the opportunity to join their external partners or transition to roles within Novant Health while others will receive resources to ease their transition and express gratitude for their service to Novant Health and its patients.
