Rose successfully qualifies for Open, while Garcia once again misses the mark

Newcomer Jack McDonald Secures spot at the Open Championship through a play-off while ex-Ryder Cup teammate Justin Rose Looks to Improve.

Justin Rose successfully qualified for the Open Championship at Royal Troon, finishing his day at Burnham Burrow in Somerset on eight under par to secure one of the four qualifying spots. His ex-Ryder Cup teammate, Sergio Garcia, fell short for the second year in a row.

At Dundonald Links in Ayrshire, Jack McDonald secured his spot through a play-off. The 152nd Open Championship is set to take place on 18-21 July.

Rose tied for the top spot with fellow Englishman Dominic Clemons. Clemons, who had previously been denied a spot in the Open, played well enough to secure his place this time around. Rose, a veteran of the tournament who has played in every Open since 2007, will be looking to improve on his previous performances.

Garcia finished two strokes shy of qualifying, just as he did the previous year. Despite hoping to play in his 100th major at this year’s Open, his score was only good enough for a share of sixth place. His low world ranking as a result of joining LIV Golf means the only major he currently qualifies for is the Masters.
