New York Yankees Off to a Strong Start Despite Injury and Rehab: Update on DJ LeMahieu and Gerrit Cole

The New York Yankees are off to a strong start this season with a record of 12-5, showing promising signs for the team’s success. However, infielder DJ LeMahieu is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment soon, likely playing fewer than five games before returning to the big league level.

LeMahieu, who is 35 years old, was placed on the injured list just before Opening Day due to a bone bruise sustained from a foul ball during spring training. In his absence, Oswaldo Cabrera has been given more playing time at third base and has performed well with a .292/.346/.521 slash line, three home runs, and 12 RBI.

Manager Aaron Boone provided an update on ace pitcher Gerrit Cole, who has been making progress in his recovery from right elbow inflammation. Cole recently threw from 75 feet as part of his rehab and is aiming to be back on the mound by June 1. He was placed on the 60-day IL and is not eligible to return until at least May 27.
