New Trier Science Olympiad Squad Earns First Place at Illinois State Tournament”.

New Trier’s Science Olympiad squad claimed first place at the Illinois State Tournament with an impressive 84-point finish. The varsity team held off Adlai E. Stevenson High School of Lincolnshire by just two points at the event, which took place at the University of Urbana-Champaign. The University of Chicago Laboratory Schools came in third place.

The Illinois Science Olympiad tournaments feature a variety of events designed to test teams’ scientific skills and knowledge across different disciplines. This year, New Trier’s team earned numerous medals and honors in various categories, marking their first overall win since 2018.

Freshmen Kate Kang and Sofia Yang were among those who received accolades at the tournament, earning 3rd place medals. Sophomores Brian Ren, Elan Hao, Vivian Chen, and Justin Lu each secured 1st place medals, while juniors Malachia Noel, Kevin Huang, Steven Zhao, Varun Murali, and Kaci Morris each earned multiple gold or silver medals. Nicholas Circolone also received a bronze medal. Seniors Pranshu Rao and Tiana Wu both performed well in their respective categories, earning 1st place in two events each.

In addition to their success at the state tournament, New Trier also excelled at the regional tournament at Oakton College earlier this year. They took first place in the varsity category and first and second place in the junior varsity category. With a strong showing at both tournaments, the team is now preparing for the national tournament at Michigan State University on May 25th.

Financial support for New Trier’s Science Olympiad program is provided through the New Trier Educational Foundation’s James Marran Grants program. This initiative aims to ensure that all students can participate in Science Olympiad regardless of their family’s financial situation.

Overall, New Trier’s Science Olympiad squad demonstrated impressive scientific skills by securing first place at both regional and state tournaments this year. With continued hard work and dedication from team members and supporters alike, they are poised to make a strong showing at nationals next month.

Members of the New Trier team received accolades in a variety of categories at both regional and state tournaments.
