National Lottery CEO’s Alcohol and Abuse Allegations Lead to Dismissal Decision by Board of Directors

Jannie Haek, CEO of the National Lottery, has been unable to resolve his issues with the unions through mediation. The responsibility now falls on the board of directors to make a decision. The unions accused Haek of engaging in “unacceptable verbal abuse” towards staff and displaying “excessive alcohol consumption.”

During the mediation process, which began in late March at the request of the union delegation at the National Lottery, Haek apologized multiple times for his behavior. He also committed to working on improving his communication style. However, despite these efforts, the unions decided not to continue with the current mediation process as they felt that trust had been completely eroded.

The unions have left the decision in the hands of the board of directors but have expressed disappointment that the situation has escalated to this point. They have not demanded Haek’s dismissal but have called for him to improve his behavior and communication skills.

Haek has been serving as CEO of the National Lottery since 2013, with an annual fee of 290,000 euros. His mandate was extended in 2021, but ongoing issues surrounding his behavior have led to a breakdown in trust and communication with the unions.
