Myrtle Beach Golf Cart Rental Business Hit with 45-Day Ban Despite Payment, Attorneys Seek Judicial Intervention

Rent Me Superstore, a golf cart rental business in Myrtle Beach, has been hit with a 45-day ban due to falling behind on business license and decal fee payments. The possible suspension was discovered on May 21, and despite making the necessary payments in full, the city decided to move forward with the suspension on June 11.

The company has had annual franchise licenses for over seven years and has never had any outstanding payments to the city. However, missing out on revenues during the suspension period could cost the company approximately $450,000.

Rent Me Superstore believes that any issues were resolved once payment was made, as the city has accepted tardy payments from them in the past without further action. The suspension is putting the company’s survival at risk as it may lose employees, goodwill, marketing opportunities, and contracts with third parties such as insurance companies and landlords.

Attorneys for Rent Me Superstore are seeking judicial intervention to lift the suspension. They argue that allowing it to continue could ruin the company while temporarily lifting it will not harm the city in any way.

The city of Myrtle Beach declined to comment on pending litigation. Spokeswoman Meredith Denari stated that they do not provide comments on pending legal matters. The lawsuit filed on Monday in Horry County Common Pleas Court details how suspending operations would negatively impact Rent Me Superstore’s finances and emphasizes how urgently they need to lift the ban to avoid potential closure of their business.
