Misbranding and Allergens Lead to Recall of Liquid Egg Products

Michael Foods Inc. Recalls Over 4,600 Pounds of Liquid Egg Products Due to Misbranding and Undeclared Allergens

In a recent recall, Michael Foods Inc. has announced the withdrawal of over 4,600 pounds of liquid egg products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) made the announcement.

The Minnesota-based company revealed that the affected products were produced on June 11th and include items from their liquid egg breakfast blend formulation range. The recall involves a 32-oz paperboard carton labeled “Fair Meadow Foundations Whole Eggs with Citric Acid” with a use by date of “16 SEP 24” and lot code 4162G. This product is also sold in a corrugated case labeled Scrambled Egg Blend with the same use by date and lot code. These products were shipped to various restaurant consignees across several states, including Alabama, Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, and Utah.

During an inventory checkup at Michael Foods Inc., discrepancies in inventory were discovered when they noticed that some Whole Egg with Citric Acid cartons were missing while there was an excess of Breakfast Blend Scrambled Egg cartons. A further investigation revealed that the missing cartons had been used mistakenly during a production run for Breakfast Blend Scrambled Egg, which contains an allergen not listed on the Whole Egg with Citric Acid label. Fortunately, there have been no reports of adverse reactions from consuming these products yet.

Michael Foods Inc., acting quickly to notify FSIS and initiate the recall process, issued a statement advising consumers who may have purchased these products to return them for a full refund or dispose of them properly. The company emphasized the importance of diligent labeling practices by food companies to prevent such incidents and ensure consumer safety.

In conclusion, Michael Foods Inc.’s prompt response to this recall incident shows their commitment to protecting their customers’ health and safety through responsible labeling practices.
